- White Elephant Rules:
- Each player brings one wrapped gift to contribute to a common pool
- Players draw numbers to determine what order they will go in
- Alternatively, someone can draw names from a hat, or the order can be set by the organizer prior to the event
- Players display gifts so everyone can see them
- The first player selects a gift from the pool and opens it
- The following players can choose to either pick an unwrapped gift from the pool or steal a previous player’s gift
- Anyone who gets their gift stolen in this way can do the same – choose a new gift or steal from someone else
- After all players have had a turn, the first player gets a chance to swap the gift he or she is holding for any other opened gift
- Additional Notes:
- The White Elephant Gift should be something nice that the bearer would like for themselves, not a gag gift. Suggestions are a Christmas or holiday centerpiece, an adult beverage, or a seasonal treat like a box of candy or anything ham radio related.
- Three Swaps and You’re Out
If you get stolen from three times during the game, you are out of the game and can no longer be stolen from - Three Swaps and the Gift is Out
If a present gets stolen three times, it’s out of the game and the person who holds it gets to walk away with it

2020 ARRL Field Day
The 2020 ARRL Field Day is June 27-28.
With great disappointment, that RST must inform you that our usual Mt. Bigelow Field Day Site
is well within the Evacuation Zone of the Bighorn Fire. According to the latest maps, the fire perimeter was
approximately 1/4mi North of our Field Day site. The suspicion is that within 24hrs, if the wind and weather
conditions continue, the Field Day site will be directly impacted.
Radio Society of Tucson is officially announcing an OPERATE FROM HOME Field Day Operation
for Field Day, taking advantage of the special CovID-19 score aggregation rules the ARRL Field Day committee has
set up. More information will be provided shortly.
RST hopes that Catalina Radio Club will join us in supporting this effort and we can use a combined "RST+CRC"
aggregation for the results.
Possibilities for collaboration:
- Zoom Party from our Shacks
- Over The Air collaboration on operating conditions
- 146.800 (RST Repeater)
- 147.340 (CRC Repeater)
- 147.000 (N7HND Repeater) or
- 146.520 FM (National Simplex)
This year the ARRL is saying that "A Time to Adapt" (for full details visit Field Day 2020 — A Time to Adapt). The ARRL would like us to do Field Day in a different way. Their highlights are as follows:
- Encourage club members to operate from their home stations on emergency power (Class E)
- Use the club’s repeater as a means for individual participants to keep in touch during the event
- Family members interested in operating Field Day and unable to participate as part of a larger group may want to consider setting up a portable station in the backyard with a temporary antenna
